Am I allowed to install Air Conditioning in my strata/condo?

If your building isn’t on the lists above, the short answer is it depends. Most older buildings do not have a centralized HVAC installed so owners are responsible for the installation of air conditioning themselves. Typically, bylaws state that any changes to common property require strata approval so in the case of air conditioning, here are a few items to consider-

  • Outdoor space for the heat-pump
  • Electricity
  • Drainage
  • Aesthetics
  • Noise
  • Additional permits
  • Responsibility for envelope issues
